FIRST CHARITY FUNDRAISER A SUCCESS!
When: Saturday the 28th of June 2008 from 1-3 PM (Click here for details for the upcoming second benefit!)
Where: The historic Estate Winery Barrel Room, Wente Vineyards, 5565 Tesla Rd, Livermore, CA
Why: An afternoon of live music, FREE food, wine tasting, and helping an important human rights cause. All proceeds from ticket sales went to complete Tapestries of Hope (TOH), a landmark human rights movie and social entrepreneurship effort involving on-the-ground work with children, particularly girls, in Africa and North America.
Who: The Front Porch. In early 2008, winemaker Karl Wente turned his famed weekly jam sessions into the acclaimed band, "The Front Porch". Band members include Bay Area music heavyweights: Jim Hurley (concert violinist, guitarist, bassist), Kenneth Nash (percussionist extraordinaire), Jon Williams (guitarist, vocalist), Megan Christina (guitarist, vocalist), Bob Giddens (ukulelist, guitarist, vocalist), Art Najera (lead guitarist), Richard Hibbs (cellist, guitarist, bassist), and retired concert pianist/TOH Producer Ray Arthur Wang (keyboardist, vocalist).
Genre: The Front Porch rotates through multiple genres for a truly unique listening experience: Attendees heard original music as well as THE BEATLES, ROLLING STONES, RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS, VAN MORRISON, CHICK COREA, BEETHOVEN, GERSHWIN, etc.
Special Guest Speaker: Attendees heard award-winning author/TOH director Michealene Cristini Risley talk about her experiences in a Zimbabwe prison and as a speaker at the United Nations.
